Durdle Door - 12 miles

Famous for the Durdle Door Arch, probably the most photographed view along the Dorset coast and one of the wonders of the British coastline, this beach is a narrow strand of mixed shingle, gravel and sand. The eastern end (Durdle Door Cove) is protected by the arch, while the rest of the beach is partially sheltered by a submerged offshore reef. The beach is bounded at the western end by Bat's Head, a chalk headland. All the cliffs backing the beach are steep and prone to occasional rockfalls, so climbing or sheltering underneath them is not advised.

Monkey World - 4 Miles

Set amongst the woodland of Dorset lays 65 acres of sanctuary for over 150 primates. Monkey World was set up in 1987 by Jim and Alison Cronin to provide abused Spanish beach chimps with a permanent, stable home. There are currently 56 chimpanzees at Monkey World, which makes it the largest group outside Africa.

Hardys Monument - 5 Miles

Travel around this part of Dorset and you cannot fail to find a reference to Dorset`s greatest author:- Thomas Hardy. You will therefore be forgiven if you travel to Portesham and assume the Hardy of this monument, and the author, are one and the same.
Clear your mind of this reference and think of another Hardy, ...not a 1920`s silent film star with a partner called Laurel, instead think of Lord Nelson..."kiss me Hardy",....Battle of Trafalgar, 1805 and all that.

Lulworth Cove - 12 Miles

On the south coast of England, notable for its geology and geomorphology is the most-visited geological locality in Britain. There are excellent exposures of folded Jurassic and Cretaceous strata and on the cliffs to the east is the Fossil Forest with an ancient soil and tree remains. Kingston Lacey House - 15 Miles

Altered by Sir Charles Barry in the19th century, the house contains the outstanding collection of paintings and other works of art accumulated by William Bankes. It is famous for its dramatic Spanish Room, with walls hung in magnificent gilded leather. The house and garden are set in a wooded park with attractive waymarked walks and a fine herd of Red Devon cattle.

For over 600 years this colony of friendly mute swans has made its home at the Abbotsbury Sanctuary. Sheltered by the famous Chesil Beach, this ancient and special site provides protection for hundreds of nesting swans and their broods.

The attractive seaside resort of Weymouth lies on the south English coast, just south of Dorchester, in an area affectionately known as the Dorset Riviera. Weymouth’s picturesque bay is a three-mile arc of sandy beach, that is proudly listed as one of Britain’s elite Grade A beaches. Lined with elegant 18th century Georgian terrace houses, the safe and sheltered bay provides visitors with a wonderful place for swimming and other popular watersports.
